Thermographic Surveys

Applications

It is an effective non-destructive testing tool used to check electrical and mechanical systems, buildings, insulation and moisture. However, there are a multitude of applications for infrared technology.

  • Electrical – switchboards, control panels, distribution boards, transformers, overhead power lines, motor control centres, bus ducts.
  • Mechanical – bearings, pumps, valves, motors, compressors, pulleys, conveyors, pinion wear, seals, piping, refractory (kilns, furnaces, ovens).
  • Building – insulation, air-conditioning, boilers, piping, plumbing, facades, moisture contamination & leaks.
  • Energy Audits – insulation, lighting and heat generation, window and glass heat transfer, air-conditioning.
  • Refrigeration – cold rooms, refrigerated containers and transport.

 

Electrical

ThermoView-37Most electrical faults are preceded by a change in temperature. Regular Thermal Imaging will “see” these invisible thermal signatures that represents impending danger or damage before it happens, ensuring your workplace and equipment remains safe and productive.

Detect electrical problems such as;

  • Poor or loose contacts
  • Unbalanced loads
  • Overloading
  • Inoperative capacitors
  • Voltage tracking on insulators
  • Undersized conductors

Mechanical

Fatigue and stress concentration in components can be detected and verified using Thermal Imaging as temperature change indicates these issues. Thermography is used to successfully detect;

  • Misalignment in rotating equipment
  • High bearing and oil temperatures
  • Anomalies in HVAC, boiler and chiller units
  • Broken or defective valves
  • Defective seals
  • Misalignment of pulleys and drive belts

 

Building

Internal properties in walls and pipes, cool room/oven insulation and efficiency, scale build up and fluid build-up in composite structures can be determined. General inspection areas are;

Thermal Imaging is an integral part of Energy Audits as it can detect heating and cooling loss due to poor construction, missing or inadequate insulation and moisture intrusion. General Inspection areas are;
